Am I eligible for a 19+ advanced learning loan?

19+ Advanced Learning Loan Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a 19+ advanced learning loan you must meet the following criteria

  • Must be aged 19 or older
  • Must be a UK resident for over 3 years
  • The course you wish to study must be eligible for a 19+ advanced learning loan

For more information visit our page dedicated to eligibility criteria.

What is a 19+ loan & who gets the money?

You aren’t given any money with this loan. What happens is you only start to pay back money to the UK Government once you earn over £21,000 a year.

It's more of a “Income Contingent Repayment Plan ” in comparison to a normal loan.

The repayment period is open for a maximum of 30 years (any payments still due after 30 years are written off)

Any agreement made for a loan is 100% between you and the Student Loans Company, not with Ixion College

See Student Loans Company (the UK Government) for full details

Ixion College accesses different Government funding from the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) to fund the cost of our training and service delivery costs to you.

Can my 19+ loan be written off or cancelled?

Typically any outstanding loan payments you have will be written off 30 years after it becomes eligible to be repaid.

If you receive a disability-related benefit and are permanently unfit for work, The Student Loans Company can cancel the loan. However, The Student Loans Company cannot cancel a loan unless they receive medical confirmation together with evidence of your disability benefit.

In addition, if you’re undertaking an Access to HE Diploma and then go on to complete an Higher Education qualification the outstanding balance of your 19+ Advanced Learning Loan will be written off. To qualify for this write off you must have fully completed both courses. It is important to note that you do not need to take out a loan for the HE course, however, it must be eligible for funding by Student Finance England. The HE course does not have to relate to the Access to HE course you complete.

Finally, if you die your loan will be written off

Any agreement for a Student loan is 100% between you and the Student Loans Company, never with Ixion College or Ixion Holdings (Contracts) Ltd

See Student Loans Company (the UK Government) for full details and cancellation terms

Is there a maximum or minimum amount to the value of a loan that I can have?

Any loans taken out must be for a minimum of £300 and needs to be large enough to cover the cost of the course that you order from Ixion College.

Do I have to have a Paypal account to pay with my credit/debit card?

This is so that we can be confident of providing a personal and immediate service and also that we work to the Skills Funding Agency rules for funding and training. This policy allows us to provide additional classroom or other kinds of learning support, if required.

What is an Access to Higher Education Course?

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you. Most Access to HE courses are delivered in further education colleges in England and Wales, and there are more than 1,100 courses available in a wide range of different subjects, from business to nursing from a range of providers. There is no upper-age limit for Access to HE courses, and many don’t have any formal entry requirements. Most Access to HE courses can be completed in one year, but it is flexible (speak with your tutor).
